Lesson 1
Step 1: Brainstorm ramps
What is a ramp? Where have you seen one before?
Record answers on a brainstorm chart.
Step 2: Hands-on
Students will be given the time to build and explore ramps. Students will then be asked to draw a picture of their “favorite” ramp. These pictures will be used to replicate the ramp in the following class so encourage detail!
Step 3: Reflect
Think Pair Share about which ramp was their favorite and why. What qualities made these ramps the best? (made their item go the fast, would be easy to roll up in a wheelchair…
Think about it, pair and share it!
Materials:
Books or blocks to prop up ramp and modify height
Plywood or another surface to use as ramp
Different objects to test down the ramp
Chart paper & marker
Paper for student drawing
